Summer is finally here, and our kids want to be outside all day. Getting them to come inside for a rest and to cool off is a challenge but necessary. This is also a good time to be thinking about dehydration and if they are drinking enough water.
We lose more water than our natural bodily functions when we spend time in the hot sun and are sweating. Humans are made up of mostly water and we need to maintain the proper balance of fluids to stay hydrated throughout the day.
I can tell when our kids have not drunk enough water. Their moods change, they appear to be tired and cranky. If they ever tell me they have a headache or feel a little dizzy, I go right to the water cooler and have them slowly drink a glass of water. Try putting some sliced fruit in with their water or even better have them help. Our kids’ favorite fruits to add are strawberries, oranges, or lemons. This provides them with the fluids they need along with some extra vitamins, and you get to spend fun time together in the kitchen.
Have any tips for keeping your kids hydrated? I’d love to hear from you.
